Abstract

In this article, the author reviews the different ways the relation between education and democracy was thought during the years since democracy re instauration, in 1984. There are three periods in which this relation was thought with completely different parameters. The first one is characterized by a political hegemony that is solved in the binomial authoritarianism - democracy, two words to delimiting a past which want to be abandoned and a desirable future. The second period taken is the educational reform one, which has a modernization impression, defined in terms of changes in the educational system and subjectivities engineering organizing. The third period is called "After the '90", regarding the efficiency of the re structuring of this time, to mark a new period in which the relation between democracy and education is defined by the governability requirements. Finally, some ideas are proposed to rebuild and agenda for the discussion and processing in the public arena.
