Beyond the school: pedagogical definitions and visual discourse. Analysis of the magazine Quid Novi? (Rosario, 1932 - 1934)
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this article we propose to investigate the particular articulation produced between art, culture and pedagogy that is evidenced in the Quid Novi? series of magazines between 1932 and 1934 by the Asociaciones de Padres y de Ex–alumnas de la Escuela Normal Superior N ° 2 of the city of Rosario (province of Santa Fe, Argentina). The publication was advertised as a magazine of "pedagogy, literature, science and art" and offers writings by intellectuals and pedagogues of the time, as well as drawings and engravings by local graphic artists.
We dwell particularly on the analysis of images and on how they establish explicit links between the artistic field and school culture. Our study focuses on the magazine as an object possessing its own materiality and visuality in which the recognizable marks of a powerful intellectual project are perceived and able to articulate ideas and initiatives coming from the new school pedagogical movement with modernizing transformations of the culture and the art of the city.
