Secondary education in Buenos Aires: From provincial university to the national high school

Abstract
This article presents some of the results of a master?s thesis that examined the process of nationalization of secondary education in Argentina in the second half of the nineteenth century. The study focused in the province of Buenos Aires because of its centrality and educational policy in times of national organization. The work shows a number of initiatives in this Province by organizing the secondary education in it ?s jurisdiction and how they were nationalized in the context of disputes, but also partnerships with the national government. The National State was able to regulate the private sector in the country and concentrate the secundary education in the Colegios Nacionales. By the late nineteenth century, the idea that secondary education was a national issue was consolidated
