Information for Authors

Archivos de Ciencias de la Educación publishes original, previously unpublished articles based on research, bibliographic essays, and state-of-the-art reviews, as well as reviews of books, academic events, and literary or cinematic works related to the field of education. Its aim is to contribute to academic and professional debate regarding national and international educational issues.

Calls for submissions for the various sections are permanently open, and specific thematic calls are issued periodically.

There are no submission, publication, or access fees. Once published, the article will be available for free reading or download.

1. Manuscript presentation

Archivos de Ciencias de la Educación accepts unpublished works in Spanish. All manuscripts must be uploaded to the OJS platform as A4-sized Word documents with 2.5 cm margins, 11-point Arial font, and 1.5 line spacing.

Original articles must range from 35,000 to 40,000 characters (including spaces), covering notes, bibliographic references, charts, and tables (approximately 20 pages). Book reviews must range from 8,500 to 9,500 characters (including spaces) (approximately 4 pages). In both cases, submissions must be in Spanish.

The call for submissions to the various sections is opened periodically through thematic calls and remains open on an ongoing basis.

Acceptance of a manuscript by the journal implies that it will not be submitted simultaneously to other journals or publishing bodies and the non-exclusive transfer of the authors' economic rights to the publishing entity, which permits reuse, after publication (postprint), under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. The material may be shared (copied and redistributed in any medium or format) and adapted (remixed, transformed, and built upon the material of another work), provided that: a) the authorship and original source of publication (journal, publisher, and URL of the work) are cited; b) it is not used for commercial purposes; and c) the same license terms are maintained.

The transfer of non-exclusive rights also implies the authorization by the authors for the work to be deposited in the institutional repositories of the UNLP (SEDICI and Academic Memory) and disseminated through the databases that the publishing entity considers appropriate for its indexing, with a view to increasing the visibility of the publication and its authors.

Likewise, the journal allows and encourages authors to deposit their contributions in other institutional and thematic repositories, with the certainty that culture and knowledge are a common good.

There are no fees for submission, publication, or access. Once published, the article will be available for free reading or download.

2. Presentation

2.a Title

Title in the language of the text, followed by the title in English. It should be representative of the content and a maximum of 10 words. Subtitles are discouraged; they may be included in the text but not in the title for the table of contents. [In reviews, include the full Author's Review and Title with all the publishing information of the book being reviewed.] Titles cannot include footnotes or a period.

2.b.  Authors' names and surnames

2.c.  Authors' information

Below each author's name, the following information must be written in full (not acronyms): a) the name of the institution where the author conducted the research that produced the article; b) the country of the institution; c) the author's institutional email address; d) the author's ORCID. In the case of multiple authors, repeat these lines as many times as necessary and indicate the Declaration of Collaborative Roles (section 4.e explains how to register multiple authors, sponsorships, funding, and a biographical note). All this information must also be uploaded to the platform at the time of submission. For additional information, see "Author Information" below.

Clarifications regarding the workplace, institutional affiliation, or institutional affiliation of each author: Provide the full name of the institution where they work (workplace) along with the country. Use a comma (",") between each piece of information. Example:

Faculty of Humanities, National University of Córdoba, Argentina

If the institution has dual or triple affiliation, use a hyphen (“-”) between each one. Example: Institute xxx, (UNCo - CONICET), University of Comahue, Argentina.

In cases where an author must indicate more than one place of work, a slash (“/”) will be used to separate them. Following the design and publication system of the FaHCE Journals, this information will be indicated on a single line.

2.d. Title, Abstract, and Keywords in Spanish and English

An abstract of up to 200 words should be written in the language of the text. At the end of the abstract, provide up to 5 keywords, each beginning with a capital letter and separated by commas. Include keywords that you would use in a search. For articles submitted in Portuguese, the title, abstract, and keywords must also be submitted in both Spanish and English.

3. Text

Body

The body of the text can have the structure desired by the author. It must comply with the indicated format and respect the following guidelines. Use a clear subheading format, distinguishing between numbering, bold, and italics to differentiate sections from subsections (for example, 2.a, 2.b). Respect the citation format for in-text citations and direct quotations of the APA 7th Edition guidelines (established in the following section).

Sections

As a suggestion, it is recommended that research articles and research progress reports be divided into sections that include: a) Introduction, b) Methodology, c) Results and Discussion, and d) Conclusions. Other contributions may divide the text into sections as the authors deem appropriate.

Notes

Notes should always be placed at the end of the text (not as footnotes). Use the word processor's reference system and select "insert endnote" (Ctrl + Alt + o) after the punctuation mark. Footnotes should not be used solely for bibliographic citations. Notes cannot be included with titles or subtitles, as these are metadata of the scientific article and must always be cited within the text.

Abbreviations

Their meaning should be explained the first time they are used in the text, for example: United Nations (UN). After this explanation, only the abbreviation should be used. It is recommended to avoid overuse of abbreviations.

Figures, Tables, Graphs, or Images

For figures, tables, graphs, or images, identify them with numbers and always reference or mention them in the text. Title them at the top and indicate the source at the bottom. Consider the publication format when creating a table: keep the reader in mind, and to ensure the visibility of the data, do not design tables with more columns than can be seen on a vertical A4 sheet. For the publication of extensive, systematized datasets that serve as the basis for the article, the UNLP Research Data Repository must be used. Tables with a special design may be included as images rather than as tables. Landscape tables (exceeding the width of the page, vertical orientation) are not acceptable, nor are tables that exceed one page (see page format and margins in 1. Manuscript Presentation).

Image Size

It is essential that figures be submitted as JPG image files for web with no more than 96 dpi, a maximum width of 600px, and a maximum height of 800px. Image editors allow you to resize images. Landscape images (those exceeding the width of the page, in portrait orientation) are not accepted.

4. Citation and Reference Guidelines

Review your text before submitting it for evaluation and confirm that all citations are correctly referenced in the bibliography. Also, confirm that the list does not include any references not mentioned in the text. Do not include references that are not fundamental to your argument.

4.a. In-text quotations
  • Quotations of up to 40 words should be enclosed in quotation marks. Quotations longer than 40 words should be set off in a separate paragraph, indented from the left margin, without quotation marks, and separated from the preceding and following text by a space.
  • Include the author, year of publication, and page number. Example: (López, 1996, p. 125). If the author's last name is mentioned in the text, only the year, page, and number may be included: Example: López states in his book (1996, p. 125).
  • If a work has two authors, both names should be cited each time the reference occurs.
  • If there are more than two authors, the first time they are mentioned, all surnames should be included. From the second time onward, (Surname et al.) can be used.
  • Never use footnotes or endnotes solely to indicate a bibliographic reference.
  • It is recommended to avoid excessive use of direct quotations or critical references.

4.b In-text citations
  • Do not overuse reference citations. Include only those sources that are fundamental to supporting the article's argument. This will be considered in the evaluation.
  • The author's last name, or the acronym of the institutional author, should be indicated in parentheses, followed by a comma and the year of publication. For example (Mannino, 2005; AAHE, 2006).
  • For seven or more authors, list all last names the first time, and then only the first author's last name followed by et al. (Golubic et al., 2008).
  • When citing two or more works, separate them with semicolons (Kaplan, 2008; Neuberger and Counsell, 2002; Buela Casal et al., 2006). • When the author and year coincide, a letter will be used to distinguish them (Zeng and Zummer, 2009a; 2009b).

4.c Documentary or Oral Sources Without Complete Reference Data

If unedited primary sources are used, which cannot be referenced in a standard way, or where referencing is not necessary for the article's scientific metric, a section entitled “Documentary Sources Used” will be added before the bibliographic references. All available data for identifying the source will be included there. Example: Author, A. A. (Day, Month, Year). Title of the material. [Description of the material]. Name of the compilation (classification number, box number, file number or name, etc.). Name and location of the repository.

4.d List of References

All cited references will comprise the References list, a section located at the end of the work under that title. Only those used in the development of the article should be included, in accordance with the APA 7th edition guidelines (available at https://apastyle.apa.org/; examples at https://normas-apa.org). Under this subheading, all bibliographic sources cited in the article, and only those, must be listed. Please check the consistency of surnames and dates before submitting your manuscript.

The list must follow alphabetical order. If several works by the same author are referenced, the surnames must be repeated (avoid using hyphens), and the entries should be ordered by year of publication, from oldest to most recent.

In cases where a surname and year are repeated, differentiate one entry from another by adding lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.) immediately after the year and within the same parentheses. This indication will correspond to the citation included in the article text.

5. Other text subheadings

All must precede the References.

Authorship declaration or collaborative roles

This must be included when the work has more than one author. Each member's contribution, that is, their participation in the article's authorship, must be indicated. If "Writing, revision, and editing" is shared, the role should be written once, followed by the authors. For other roles, please refer to the description provided by CAICYT. Example: Writing, revision, and editing: César Milstein and Beatriz Sarlo.

Declaration on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

If artificial intelligence tools were used, include a subheading titled "Use of Artificial Intelligence" stating the scope and nature of that use—whether for writing, proofreading, academic editing, or any other application—in accordance with the journal's policies. Additionally, it is mandatory to properly cite the sources used (algorithm provider, year, model, etc.).

Acknowledgments

These are not mandatory. If necessary, they should be included at the end of the text, before the bibliography, and should be brief. Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to mention the names of individuals or organizations they deem worthy of acknowledgment.

Funding or Sponsorship

This is not mandatory, but if it is necessary to indicate it, use the subheading before the bibliography. Acknowledge the support received for funding the activities, along with the project identification number, the funding agencies/organizations, the source(s) of funds, and any other relevant information. Remember to anonymize this information in the corresponding version.

Biographical Note

If you wish to include a brief profile of the author's education or professional experience, you can do so with this subheading before the bibliography. Each author can update their own profile with their academic information on the journal's OJS platform. There, you can register additional information, such as affiliation with specific centers or projects, academic degrees, or positions held. This information will be visible in the "Author Biography" section on the article's cover page. You are encouraged to complete and update your registration. Authors with ORCID profiles can also keep their personal and research information up to date on that site.

Authors are responsible for the formal aspects of manuscript submission: articles that do not conform to these guidelines will be returned. Submissions must be made exclusively by registering as an author on this platform and uploading the manuscript and its metadata as indicated in the system's instructions, ensuring that all author and submission information is complete. If you experience technical difficulties submitting your manuscript, please contact: publicaciones@fahce.unlp.edu.ar.

6. Editorial Process and Evaluation System

Manuscripts must be submitted through the OJS platform and will undergo a double-blind peer review process based on criteria of academic quality, thematic relevance, and scientific excellence. The editorial process is as follows:

6.a. Manuscript Receipt and Preliminary Editorial Evaluation

Submissions must be made exclusively by registering as an author on this platform and uploading the manuscript and its metadata as indicated in the system's instructions, ensuring that all author and submission information is complete. All submitted manuscripts are received by the Editorial Secretariat, which acknowledges receipt to the authors. The editors then conduct a preliminary evaluation to determine if the topics align with the journal's stated scope. Submissions that do not meet this requirement are rejected.

6.b. Double-Blind External Peer Review

When the initial evaluation is positive, two expert reviewers in the relevant field are selected to assess the quality of the work. The evaluation system adopted by Palabra Clave (La Plata) is double-blind (the anonymity of both authors and reviewers is maintained). Palabra Clave (La Plata) uses anti-plagiarism tools.

The peer review criteria used are as follows: 1. Fulfillment of the stated purpose; 2. Methodological rigor; 3. Quality of the development of the topic; 4. Style, terminology, and clarity of exposition; 5. Bibliography.

6.e Editorial Decision and Communication to Authors

Based on the evaluation reports, the editorial committee will make a decision and notify the author by email. The decision may be:

  1. Accepted without changes.
  2. Accepted subject to modifications (it does not undergo further peer review).
  3. Rejected, offering the author the possibility of revising and resubmitting the manuscript, subject to a new round of evaluation. 4. Rejected (the manuscript is returned to the author, along with the reviewers' comments).

When the result is "2" and "3", the manuscript is returned to the author to consider the changes suggested by the reviewers. The new version must be submitted within 30 days. When the reviews are conflicting, the editor will send the work to a third reviewer.

6.g Re-evaluation and final decision

The revised version will be evaluated by the editorial team and, when appropriate, again by the external reviewers. Finally, the editorial committee will decide on the final acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.

6.h Editing and publication

Accepted works will undergo a stage of copyediting, editing, and layout, during which minor adjustments may be requested. Finally, the article will be assigned to an issue of the journal, receive its DOI, and be published.
